Unexpected Zero Day

Today ended up being an unexpected zero day. I had considerable amounts of work to do on the blog; I feel like I’ve gotten further and further behind with each day and town stop. Today is the day I remedied the gap in blog updates that you were experiencing on the 7th and 8th of October.

Initially, I only wanted to stay until noon and work on everything –  but then I got a hair-brained idea… I’ll just zero today to get EVERYTHING caught up. Then, I’ll wake up at 3:30 am – start hiking by 4 am, and try to hike 53 miles to Cuba by 10 pm or so. I haven’t done anything crazy since the Basin, so it’s high time to challenge myself for another big day.  I’m not promising myself anything, but I’m going to see if I have it in me to pull off a 50+ mile day.  I’ve never done over 50 miles when I wasn’t partaking in a 24 hour challenge, so this will be new. I hope I have the discipline and motivation…

My day consisted of writing and blog work. The only hikers at the ranch with me today were Twigsy and Peacock.  Everyone else had either hiked out or caught a bus to Santa Fe. Twigsy will head to Santa Fe tomorrow.  Regrettably, Peacock decided to end his hike here today.  He’s a true SOBO who started with his girlfriend. They ended up breaking up in the Great Basin and he’d been hiking solo ever since. Today I guess they worked some things out; part of working it out involved him getting off trail to work things out even further.  It’s a decision of love, I suppose. Either way, I’m sad to see him go. I hope it all works out for him.

There’s not much else to say about today, and I need to get some rest if I’m going to do this super stupid thing tomorrow. I don’t know what I’m thinking… but it should be interesting and beautiful nonetheless.

  1. What is the male you know what in the picture? Somehow, very funny. By now, you may have completed 50+ miles in one day. Hooray!
