I had breakfast with my friend Keegan this morning. If you’ve read my AT book, then his name will sound familiar as the guy I mailed a moose skull to from Maine. This time I hand delivered a pristine raccoon skull I found about 400 miles ago, and had been carrying since. This made it more special (so Keegan said).
Poet took a little longer to move everything and didn’t meet back up with us until after 3 pm. We just hung around a Walmart parking lot for a few hours and enjoyed the down time in the cool weather.
We were finally hiking by 4 pm and did almost 9 miles before dark. Rather than night hike along a highway again, we decided to hunker down in the first desolate patch of woods we found.
Aside from a herd of hogs on the shore of the Yellow River, the road was dead boring. I don’t have much else for ya – except… I turned that phone over to a police officer today. We walked past their squad car in downtown Crestview and I decided to hand it over, along with some information I found pertinent. We’ll see how this continues to develop…
Shooting for a big day tomorrow while ending up in more familiar waters.
