After sleeping in, as well as a few last minute errands around town, we finally began hitching around 2pm. It took about ten minutes for a young lady named Hayley to pick us up in her…Subaru Outback. The best part of this hitch was her 11 week old Silver Lab puppy named Lila. A ride back to trail while playing with an adorable puppy!? Sign me up!

Back on trail half an hour later we were faced with yet more road walking. It was gravel, but the abundant Aspens made it tolerable. Hunters in trucks and ATVs sped by us every several minutes, obviously eager to submerge themselves in the tranquility of nature. Luckily it didn’t affect a cool moose sighting we had of a mother and calf. A man on an ATV who was armed with a bow and a pistol had pulled over to watch them as well. For as well armed as he was, he was nervous to pass them and worried about an ambush from a bull. We walked right by and he took another route.

We called it a day early due to the high winds. If we kept hiking, we would soon ascend to a more exposed 11,400 ft. The Aspen groves provided more protection,  not to mention they were aesthetically pleasing.

We’re expecting the start of some inclement weather tomorrow, with it slated to get worse the day after. Cest la vie
