My only plan before getting back to the trail was to obtain some more wings at Hardys; I was craving them.  So at around 11:30am I ate some wings, then stuffed 30 more into a ziploc bag and put them in my pack.  The thought of eating them for dinner tonight or tomorrow was almost too much.

While brainstorming how to best approach getting back to the trail,  I noticed two familiar hikers get out of a car in the parkinglot next door; an Enterprise rental location. “Maybe I could get enterprise to drop me off…” I pondered. It was worth a shot.

I went over to Enterprise and caught up with the other hikers Hawkeye and Boom for a minute,  then asked the front desk my question.  The answer was “no.” Luckily however,  Hawkeye and Boom had just rented a car to get to Portland, and when the heard Enterprise reject my proposal,  they offered to drop me off at the trail on their way. So in the end my procrastination paid off.

Once back at the trail,  it was nothing but lava rock again…worse than before.  While it felt like a meat tenderizer on my feet,  I have to say I was very intrigued by the terrain; I’ve never seen anything like it.

After the lava rock, it was back to burnt out forests until I finally made camp on the shores of Big Lake.  Short half day,  but I’m planning on a string of big days after this. I made a little miscalculation on when I should be in Cascade Locks. Originally I’ve been saying September 3rd, but that’s the day my mystery guest gets here,  and I need to get there a day earlier. So I now have about 150 miles I need to do in 5 days, instead of 6; a challenge I’ve met before,  and am looking forward to it.
