It was a laid back day. Slept in, did laundry, ate unhealthy fast food, pampered and washed Katana, then tried my hand at figuring out the public transportation system.

While public transportation is the most mundane, stressful, time wasting part of millions of American’s day;  for someone like me, who never uses it,  it’s actually quite exciting,  and dare I say…an adventure in itself.

Catching a bus in a strange town full of strange strangers into another strange town is what I would consider a fun time,  and it was. The driver had no qualms with me bringing Katana on board, and she slept throughout the half hour ride through the arid, windmill strewn landscape into Mojave.

My shoes have just about bit the dust.  They’re leaking big time,  but I’m determined to get another 150 miles out of them. I duct taped them earlier,  but we’ll see how long that lasts.

I plan to stay here until Tuesday, with lots of eating and napping thrown into the mix.  We have less than 150 miles of desert left,  and with tons of snow covering the section after that,  I’m in no hurry to go wading through it. Time is on our side…for now.

  1. I am also thoroughly enjoying your journey. Two years ago we moved back east after living in California and exploring those deserts and mountains. It is lovely to read about your trip and also seeing the pictures. Vicariously living through you until I can get back into the mountains again!

  2. I am enjoying your hike almost as much as you and look forward to your posts in my email inbox. Headed out to thru hike the Border Route Trail in northern minnesota for my first backpacking trip and take inspiration from your and Katana’s journey.
